We Continue to Support Universities as They Return to Teaching
It’s that time of year again, when universities welcome new students on campus for teaching, and research students return to work on projects across the UK during September and October.
This is always an exciting time of year for us, as we have a long and successful history of working in partnership with universities throughout the UK, supporting them by building, servicing, calibrating, and repairing their Servo Hydraulic machines.
We typically work with engineering and materials science departments within a university, to support them with industrial projects such as developing and testing new materials for commercial industries, including aerospace and automotive.
The Universities We Support
We work with a variety of universities, including but not limited to the University of Manchester and the University of Birmingham. Recently, we have supported the University of Manchester by supplying a High Temperature Multi-Axial Test Machine, for the purpose of testing civil materials.
We have also recently celebrated our 25 year partnership with the University of Birmingham, who we currently support through multiple service and calibration projects in their Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics Group.
Service, calibration, and repair support
The most common projects we work with universities on include services, calibrations or repairs. University laboratories typically have a wide range of multiple machines and test equipment that need regular maintenance to ensure research projects are valid and teaching can continue unhindered. It is crucial to make sure these machines are always running in top condition, to maintain the health and safety of users, whilst providing essential industry research and development.
We currently calibrate and service equipment such as Extensometers, Load Cells, and the Servo Hydraulic machine as a whole. We can also provide service and calibration support with replacement filters, hoses and servo valves. If a machine goes down, we conduct emergency site visits in order to investigate and find the fault quickly, and safely.
Refurbishments and upgrades
We understand that university budgets and laboratory space can sometimes be limited, so we help our university customers get the best testing solutions out of their existing equipment and space.
This includes a range of refurbishment projects and upgrades, including upgrading Alpha Digital Control Systems, installing environmental chambers on existing machines, and refurbishing machine frames, hydraulic power packs, and Actuators. Our support allows research staff and technicians to cost-effectively continue research and development projects using the latest available technology, without having to constantly replace their machines.
Why Our Support is Important
If we were not able to support universities with their Servo Hydraulic machines, it would become much more expensive and time consuming for them to conduct research and development projects, as machines would be more likely to experience a fault or breakdown. Machine downtime puts a huge resource strain on not only universities, but also the sectors they work with. If machines are not maintained carefully, it will also have detrimental health and safety impacts on the staff using the machines.
In a worst case scenario, if industries such as automotive, aerospace, or civil engineering cannot gain vital research and development knowledge through universities, infrastructure, aircraft, and vehicles may experience fatal faults, due to outdated knowledge.
We wish all new university students the best of luck with their studies. If you are part of a university department or organisation, and wish to get in touch with us regarding our services, please call 01384382253.
