Low Temperature Testing

Our test lab is equipped with various systems allowing us to offer temperature-controlled testing up to 200°C, and down to extremely low temperatures of -190°C**.

Overview

Our latest development of environmental chambers has allowed us to offer sub-contract low temperature testing to sub-zero temperatures of -190°C**, using one of our dedicated test machines, specially designed environmental chamber and liquid nitrogen.

There are various cooling options. The sample can be cooled directly with liquid nitrogen being sprayed onto the sample (this is required to achieve temperatures down to as low as -196°C). If it is cooled indirectly, the liquid nitrogen can be applied to the grips or pull bars, or into the chamber but not onto the sample itself. This can give improved temperature control, especially on very small samples, but limits the lowest test temperature achievable.

The chamber has a heated glass window to prevent frosting and allow a clear view of the inside of the chamber and sample.

The activities identified with ** are not UKAS accredited.

  • Sub-zero temperature testing down to -190°C**
  • Specialist testing equipment and machines for extreme temperature testing
  • Samples cooled using liquid nitrogen directly or indirectly
  • Ideal for testing ceramics, metals and composites

Extreme High Temperature Testing

For test applications that require extreme temperature testing, we also offer sub-contract testing to very high temperatures of 2,000C*, using a variety of heating methods or infrared emitters, suited to your testing requirements, sample geometry and material. Our equipment includes induction heating, traditional furnaces or infrared emitters for heating and testing your sample or component.

Our specialist testing team can discuss these heating methods with you during the contract review, and advise you on the best procedure to heat your sample to your required test specifications.

*UKAS accredited to 1000°C

Low Temperature Testing Machines

In addition to our testing services, our team also designs and manufactures low temperature test machines to suit your requirements. Our low temperature test machines are tailor-made to our customers’ specifications, including a dedicated Phoenix frame and environmental chamber designed to suit your testing applications and samples.

Take a look at our case study to see how we helped our customer in the Nuclear sector develop a low temperature testing machine for their research and development requirements.
