Service & Calibration FAQs

Welcome to our Service & Calibration (FAQs) page. Here you will find answers to some of the questions we are regularly asked.

If you have a question that isn't answered here, please contact us here.

Why work with our Service and Calibration team?

The expert Phoenix team can calibrate a wide range of test machines/controllers, such as load cells, force gauges, and extensometers, along with preventative maintenance and full servicing to keep machines in good working order. We provide exceptional value-for-money and a quick turnaround time.

We also offer advice and upgrades regarding new and existing systems. Phoenix has been extending their services since 2003 and we maintain our first-in-class reputation by working as a tight-knit team. Phoenix was founded by two former ESH employees, Darren and Vicki Wilkes.

Why should test machines be serviced and calibrated regularly?

It's extremely important to service and calibrate test machines regularly. This ensures the machine is performing as intended - providing reliable and accurate results. Preventative maintenance is key to keeping downtime to a minimum, as this can be extremely costly and disruptive within a busy working environment, with deadlines to achieve.

How often should test machines be tested and calibrated?

The industry accepted standard interval for test machines to be tested and calibrated is once a year. This can be more or less frequent, depending on the usage of the machine.

Who should service and calibrate test machines?

Test machines should only be serviced and calibrated by a company that has a team of expert engineers with a strong knowledge base in hydraulics. They must understand the importance of providing quick, accurate calibrations with strong integral values.

Why is Phoenix best placed to service and calibrate test machines?

The Phoenix team has a first-in-class reputation and our experience is broad.  The qualifications in the team include: service and calibration, mechanical and electronics production and design, software development, production quality control, with both junior and senior management. Phoenix is in the heart of the West Midlands, providing us with a prime spot to offer our services to the whole of the UK.

Can a regular programme of service and calibration be developed?

We frequently set up annual service and calibration contracts with our customers to provide peace-of-mind and cost saving. These regular service and calibration programmes can range from every six months to every 2+ years.

Can you do this work on-site?

Our servicing team can offer all our services anywhere in the UK, on customer sites.

Are you able to cope with emergency work?

Phoenix can offer a quick diagnosis and repair across the UK on a range of hydraulic machines.

What are the most frequent problems with test machines?

The most frequent problems that we come across with test machines are dirty oil, servo-valve blockages, filter blockages, leaks and load cell misuse (e.g. overloading).

What can be done to avoid these?

The best way to avoid these problems is to have a frequent preventative maintenance programme, which includes filter and oil changes, servo-valve servicing, hose and accumulator changes, on-site training on software/controllers and oil testing.
